Peters’ father Tim, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1990-1991, was also one of the speakers during a Veterans Day service later in the afternoon. Wallace, whose son Jim is the school principal, served with the Army 82nd airborne paratroopers in World War II and was wounded several times in combat. He now lives in Fort Wayne, IN.   Sixth-grade girls wait anxiously for their chance to have burned wine cork rubbed on their faces during an interactive display on Veterans Day at Hampshire Middle School. Re-enactor Stephane Goupil demonstrated how troops would burn the ends of wine corks and them smear them on their faces to provide additional camouflage during night parachute drops.
