SUV plows into Woodridge 7-Eleven

An SUV crashed through the glass wall of a Woodridge convenience store Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters responding to the emergency call found the vehicle sticking halfway out of a 7-Eleven on the corner of 75th Street and Woodridge Drive, just before 2 p.m., said Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Batallion Chief Dave Kruzil.

No one inside the building was injured during the crash, but the driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found, Kruzil said.

“There were civilians in the building and the storekeeper,” he said. “Everybody was really lucky — what a mess that could have been.”

Electricity, gas and water utilities were shut off after responders found a water leak inside the building, officials said.

A Spokeswoman for the Woodridge Police Department said their department was able to make contact with the driver of the vehicle, and the person did not flee the scene.

No citations have been issued, but further information about the crash was not available Wednesday night.
