Police: Woman drives estranged husband off Arlington Heights road

Police are investigating a crash Sunday night in which they say a 27-year-old Rolling Meadows woman behind the wheel of an SUV repeatedly struck her estranged husband’s vehicle, forcing it off the road and into a tree.

The woman was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty about 8 p.m. near the 1200 block of South Old Wilke Road when she spotted her 35-year-old husband, who was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer, and wanted to stop him, police Sgt. Mike Hernandez said. She struck the Ford Explorer several times from behind and then struck its left quarter panel, sending his vehicle off the road.

A 34-year-old Rolling Meadows woman riding in the Ford had to be extracted, Hernandez said. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

Three children — ages 2, 5 and 8 — riding in the Jeep were taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where they were treated and released, Hernandez said.

The drivers are currently married, but have been apart for three years, he added. The Daily Herald is not publishing their names because charges may be pending.

The northbound lane of South Old Wilke Road near the crash was closed until approximately midnight. The crash is still under investigation by the traffic control unit, Hernandez said.
