Waukegan man charged in Gurnee break-in

Gurnee police announced charges Tuesday against a 43-year-old Waukegan man they say was caught breaking into a home last week by its owner.

Lawrence Starks faces charges of residential burglary, unlawful use of weapon by a felon, theft, battery, resisting a police officer and possession of a stolen firearm in connection with a break-in about 1:10 p.m. July 27, police said.

Police said officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 3400 block of Cheyenne Lane from a 55-year-old man who returned home to find a stranger in his house. The resident, police said, chased Starks, who fled on a bicycle.

Responding officers located Starks and, after a short chase, arrested him in the 1000 block of Adelphi Avenue in Waukegan. Police said Starks has two convictions for felony residential burglary. Authorities said the investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
