Bears say Soldier Field turf is ready

According to Bears head groundskeeper Ken Mrock, the playing surface at Soldier Field should be fine for Saturday night’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

Mrock told the team’s website that the problems that caused last Friday night’s Soldier Field practice to be canceled have been addressed to the team’s satisfaction. A lack of water on the newly sodded portion of the field resulted in overly dry conditions that left dangerous gaps between the rolls of sod.

“The field’s in good shape,” Mrock told ChicagoBears.com Friday afternoon. “We’ve been at it all week, and it’s very level and ready to go.”

Some seams were slightly visible on Friday, according to the website, but those areas were even with the rest of the ground.

“We addressed all the seam issues by filling those in and top-dressing them,” Mrock said. “We made sure the integrity of the field, the smoothness of the field and the safety of the field was there.”
