Suburbs could get hit with severe storms

Storm-weary suburbs may get hit with another round of thunderstorms today.

The National Weather Service is expecting severe thunderstorms this afternoon in Lake, McHenry, Kane, DuPage and northern Cook counties.

Officials said thunderstorms are capable of producing heavy rain, winds in excess of 60 mph, hail and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. The storm, currently located west of the Daily Herald coverage area, could also produce some isolated tornadoes, officials said.

However, officials said there is a chance the storm could diminish as it works east across the Illinois/Wisconsin border.

Before the isolated thunderstorms, rain is likely to begin falling across the area around 9 a.m., and continue throughout the day.
