Glenbard students observe Red Ribbon Week

Students in Glen Ellyn are helping raise awareness about alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence during Red Ribbon Week, an annual nationwide anti-drug campaign.

On Wednesday, members of the Glenbard West High School Students for Students group tied red ribbons around tree trunks on campus, and last week, they planted red mums in the school’s Red Ribbon garden.

A large red ribbon also was placed on the school’s exterior walls.

The week is held in honor of Enrique Camarena, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration special agent who died in Mexico in 1985 while investigating drug traffickers.

At the four high schools in Glenbard District 87, Students for Students clubs are kicking off a year of prevention activities. This week, they started a shoe donation drive for the 500 Tobacco Prevention Project.
