Woman dies in fall from ISU dormitory

NORMAL, Ill. — Authorities in central Illinois are investigating the death of a 45-year-old woman who plunged to the ground after climbing about two-thirds of the way up a 28-story dorm building at Illinois State University.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling says the woman was pronounced dead after falling off scaffolding outside Watterson Towers on Sunday night. Authorities didn't immediately release the woman's identity.

There's no word about why she was climbing the scaffolding. The coroner says there's no sign of foul play.

Illinois State University spokesman Jay Groves says the woman wasn't an ISU student.

ISU police and the McLean County coroner's office are investigating.

An autopsy is planned.
