Carol Stream husband charged with attempted murder
Charges against a Carol Stream man accused of stabbing his wife in the chest during a domestic dispute have been upgraded to attempted murder, authorities said Friday.
A DuPage County grand jury indicted Clifford Bolden on Thursday. In addition to attempted murder, he was charged with armed violence and aggravated domestic battery.
Bolden, 35, is accused of stabbing the victim at least twice early Oct. 19 after he returned to their apartment on East Gundersen Drive and found his belongings packed up by the door, authorities said.
Carol Stream Cmdr. Ken George said the victim suffered a collapsed lung and a cut to the face. Police were still searching for the weapon, he said Friday.
“At this point, it looks like it was a knife from the household,” he said. “We haven't been able to identify it.”
Prosecutors have said Bolden and his wife began arguing early the morning of the attack. The defendant left at some point, they said, and then returned around 6:30 a.m. and resumed arguing.
Two of the victim's sons, ages 15 and 17, were home at the time and saw Bolden run off with a knife, prosecutors said in court last month.
A K-9 unit brought in to find the weapon led searchers to a retention pond near the intersection of St. Charles and Schmale Roads. The pond was drained Thursday, George said, but the search came up empty.
George said the victim remained at Central DuPage Hospital as of earlier this week. Her condition was not immediately available Friday.
“We're hoping she has a full recovery,” he said. “It's going to take time.”
Bolden, a registered sex offender, remains jailed on $750,000 bail. His next court date is Nov. 14 in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
