17-year-old charged in Elgin home burglaries

A 17-year-old Elgin man has been charged in connection to three residential burglaries during which more than $10,000 in valuables were stolen, according to police.

Thomas Mahoney of the 3000 block of Settlers Parkway was charged with two counts of residential burglary and one count of felony theft after police linked him to the burglaries that occurred on the city’s west side.

Elgin police, who are fighting against a 28 percent rise in burglaries this year compared to the 2010, said Mahoney committed the burglaries between October 28 and December 4.

Mahoney is accused of stealing electronics, jewelry and coins values at more than $10,000, according to police.

Items were taken from two homes in the 3000 block of Cranston Avenue in Elgin and one home in the 10 N500 block of Williamsburg Drive in unincorporated Kane County.
