Hawks’ Hossa feeling better after time at home

A very tanned and healthy-looking Marian Hossa showed up at the Blackhawks convention Friday.

It was a stark contrast to the last time Hawks fans saw Hossa, leaving the United Center ice strapped tightly to a stretcher April 17 after he was crushed by Raffi Torres in Game 3 against Phoenix.

“I’m feeling much better,” Hossa said. “The time off, that definitely helped me. I took my time and didn’t have to rush back.

“That was the most important thing. After, I was allowed to fly home to Slovakia and started working out eventually.”

Torres at first was suspended 25 games by NHL discipline chief Brendan Shanahan, but he recently won his appeal to have it reduced to 21 games by Commissioner Gary Bettman.

“I look forward and don’t worry about things you can’t control,” Hossa said. “I still think he’s going to learn, sitting the 21 games.”

Corey OK with it:Goalie Corey Crawford would have been fine if the Hawks had signed Martin Brodeur as a free agent.#147;Having a guy like that, he#146;s a great goaltender, but at the same time I can only worry about myself and how I play,#148; Crawford said. #147;I want to play well and want to do well and be the No. 1 guy here.#148;Kompon to run power play:Joel Quenneville confirmed that newly hired assistant coach Jamie Kompon would be in charge of the power play.#147;We#146;ll all share in the (special-teams) responsibilities,#148; Quenneville said. #147;Jamie may have the power play and Kitch (Mike Kitchen) the PK, but we all have some input.#147;He#146;s dedicated to all aspects of the team and the game. He#146;s really improved as a hockey guy. Nobody works harder than Jamie, and nobody is more dedicated. We were fortunate to acquire him.#148;
