Ÿ Victory Gardens Theater is searching for Chicago-area gospel choirs to participate in Marcus Gardley’s play “The Gospel of Lovingkindness.” The world premiere drama running from Friday, Feb. 28, through Sunday, March 30, is set in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood and examines the toll of gun violence on families and a community. The choirs should be eight to 30 members and must commit to performing on at least one evening during the run of the show. If selected, choirs will receive a piece of music to perform at select moments in the show. Performing members will receive a complimentary ticket to the show. Choirs interested in auditioning should submit a 90-second audio or video sample to gospel@victorygardens.org. The samples need not be new. Submissions are accepted through Friday, Jan. 10. Choirs will receive a response from Victory Gardens Theater no later than Monday, Jan. 20.

Ÿ Madison Square Garden Entertainment has auditions for its Rockettes Summer Intensive summer training program in New York City. The Rockettes Summer Intensive offers aspiring dancers the opportunity to train with the Rockettes as well as a Rockettes director/choreographer to learn their signature precision dance technique. Ÿ Aspiring ballet dancers can audition for a chance to attend Miami City Ballet School’s 5-week Summer Intensive from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Ballet Chicago, 17 N. Ÿ The BrightSide Theatre Youth Project has auditions for a tuition-based production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” for grade school to high school students aged 8-18 interested in exploring musical theater. Ÿ The Lyric Opera of Chicago has auditions for members of either the American Guild of Musical Artists or Actors’ Equity to appear in the female ensemble for a 2014 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” These ensemble members will portray nuns and will also portray and understudy several small, named roles. Ensemble members must be experienced, classically trained singers who can easily sing in Latin and produce minimal vibrato. Dance skills will be required of some of the female ensemble, so please make sure to include dance experience on your résumé. Lyric is seeking a variety of body types. Auditions will be held at Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago. Auditions are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, with callbacks from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. Ÿ Verismo Opera Theater has auditions for a summer production of Donizetti’s comic opera “Elixir of Love” that is reset in 1960s San Francisco. Ÿ Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is offering two full-time, four-week training sessions for pre-professional and early-career dancers in summer 2014. A summer intensive for students ages 14-17 is in Iowa City, Iowa, from Sunday, June 16, to Friday, July 11. A summer intensive for advanced and professional dancers ages 18-24 is in Chicago from Monday, June 30, to Friday, July 25. Ÿ The Lyric Opera of Chicago has chorus auditions for classically trained singers for the 2014-15 season. Ÿ Submissions are sought for Oakton Community College’s annual Play On festival of one-act scripts written by community college students from Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The deadline is Monday, March 31. Submissions should include a cover page listing your name, address, phone number, email and the name of the community college attended. One submission is permitted per student. Winners will be notified in May, and the festival is held from Tuesday through Thursday, July 29-31.
