Drug disposal event at Hoffman police department

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for a drug disposal event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Hoffman Estates Police Department, 411 W. Higgins Road.

Residents will be able to properly and safely dispose of accumulated, unwanted and unused prescription pills, including controlled substances, which have not been previously accepted by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County. You can bring in unwanted pills with or without containers.

Unfortunately, no liquids or needles will be accepted at this event.

The initiative addresses a vital public safety and health issue. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs. Studies also show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
