Midwestern University's Chicago College of Pharmacy Partners with College of DuPage

Midwestern University's Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCP) recently established an early assurance program with College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. The CCP/COD Pre-Pharmacy Advantage Program will begin in fall of 2017 for students who graduated high school the previous spring. The agreement with COD is similar to CCP's other early assurance programs with several local universities and colleges.

"We are very pleased to work with Midwestern University on this initiative," said Dr. Emmanual Awuah, COD Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. "College of DuPage continues to search for partnerships for students that result in successful and rewarding careers."

The Pre-Pharmacy Advantage (PPA) Program will provide students who are motivated to become pharmacists with a clear and cost-effective path to achieving their goal directly out of high school. Students may apply during their senior year in high school (Track 1 option) or in their first semester at COD (Track 2 option).

"The pharmacy profession is continuing to expand and evolve with the changes in healthcare. The field offers challenging opportunities in a variety of practice settings that allow pharmacists to help people live healthier, better lives," said Nancy Fjortoft, Ph.D., Dean and Professor, Chicago College of Pharmacy at Midwestern University. "This partnership with COD is a great addition to our successful early assurance programs."

Students who are admitted to the PPA Program at COD are required to complete their prerequisite requirements during their first two years (or three years, if on the Track 2 option). Upon completion of all prerequisite course work, as well as satisfactory performance on the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT), students then transition into Midwestern University's Chicago College of Pharmacy to begin a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program. At the end of six years, successful students will earn a Pharm.D. degree enabling them to embark on an exciting career in this healthcare field.
