Possible meteor seen in suburbs

People across the suburbs were treated to a flash of brilliant light around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday when what appears to have been a meteor passed overhead. The American Meteor Society received about 200 reports of a "fireball meteor" seen over Illinois and other states, and its website crashed as a result. Full story.

Suburban Olympian comes back home for final preparations

Within days of winning the women's national title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships this month - earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team in the process - Bradie Tennell returned home to the suburbs and Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion in Buffalo Grove, where she has trained for the last 10 years. The 19-year-old from Carpentersville says coming home allows her to concentrate on her training and not be distracted by the national spotlight. Full story.

Burst pipe leads to small flood at Schaumburg movie theater

The AMC Streets of Woodfield 20 movie theater had to close for a few hours Tuesday afternoon because a pipe froze, burst and flooded the theater's lobby according to Schaumburg fire officials. When firefighters arrived, water was leaking from what appeared to be pipes for the building's sprinkler system. Full story.

Three men charged in Waukegan robberies

Waukegan police said they apprehended three men who were in the process of robbing the Dollar General on the 2200 block of North Lewis Avenue last week and charged them in three recent armed robberies in Waukegan. Full story.

Authorities: Man robbed acquaintance after they smoked marijuana in Elgin

What began as a couple of acquaintances smoking marijuana together turned violent when one of the men demanded money and drugs from the other, then beat him, prosecutors said. Cecil R. Palmer, 26, was arrested Sunday and charged with armed robbery with a firearm in the attack on a 20-year-old Elgin man. Full story.

Wolves' all-star Pirri has sights set on returning to NHL

Brandon Pirri played just one regular-season game in the Blackhawks' remarkable 2013 season, so his name is not on the Stanley Cup. Pirri's career was expected to take off with the Hawks the following season, but GM Stan Bowman traded the winger to Florida and it has been a roller coaster of emotions since.
