Four injured in Schaumburg crash

Four people were injured yesterday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 in Schaumburg, officials said. Fire crews extricated one person from the driver's side of a vehicle after arriving at the scene on westbound I-90, just east of Barrington Road, said Battalion Chief Rick Anderson of the Schaumburg Fire Department. Suburban nature lovers join Great Backyard Bird Count

Even before they could be sent trudging through snow yesterday in the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, suburban bird-watching enthusiasts spotted what appeared to be a great horned owl through the trees. A DuPage County Forest Preserve District ranger had just handed out binoculars and clipboards to record their observations in the Darien preserve when someone spotted the bird. It would be the first of many that birders would record as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count. Full story.

Traffic

No major delays so far this morning. Edwards Road in Antioch is closed in both directions between Crawford Road and US 45. A bridge damaged in flooding last year has been deemed unsafe for travel, but work to replace it will not begin until summer. Detour is available via Route 173. Full story.

Tennell's composure impresses Lipinski

NBC figure skating analyst and former Olympian Tara Lipinski knows how much pressure Olympic figure skaters feel, and it's the ability to handle it that impresses her the most about first-time Olympian Bradie Tennell, a Carpentersville native. "Those nerves are so overwhelming," Lipinski said. "For her to be so poised and put out such a clean skate, there's something very special about her mental focus." Full story.
