Renehan wins big in DuPage District 3

Incumbent Greg Hart and Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully secured the Republican nominations for two DuPage County Board seats in District 3 with 100 percent of precincts reporting early Wednesday morning.

Hart, who was appointed to the board in 2017, took home 40 percent of the vote. Tully, a two-term mayor, was next with 32 percent. Greg Abbot, a Woodridge trustee, was third with 27 percent.

Downers Grove has term limits, which is forcing Tully to step away from the mayor's post. Hart is a management consultant.

On the Democratic side, Hinsdale attorney Julie Renehan led her three-way race for two nominations with 50 percent of the vote. Downers Grove teacher John Basco came in second, scoring 25 percent of the vote, while Burr Ridge consultant Mehr Qayyum came in third with 24 percent of the vote.

The two top vote-getters from each party will face off in the November general election.

The district serves Bolingbrook, Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lemont, Naperville, Westmont, Willowbrook and Woodridge.
