"Atwood Sphere" Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago:
The Atwood Sphere, Chicago's oldest planetarium, was constructed in 1913. The sphere is 15 ft. in diameter with 692 holes in its metal surface, allowing the light to enter and show the positions of the brightest stars in the night sky. The sphere slowly rotates around the viewer putting the stars in motion. (ongoing)
