Join the Survivorship Forum
By Janice A. Youngwith
Breast Cancer Network of Strength invites patients, survivors and supporters to attend its first survivorship forum Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 6-8 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.
The informative and invigorating Life In Balance survivorship conference will feature information on the latest in breast cancer treatment as well as presentations from a number of nationally-recognized experts.
"It's a national conference, but a real boon for those in the Chicagoland area," says Christina Koenig of Breast Cancer Network of Strength.
Koenig says the two-day program will feature a powerhouse of medical expert presentations as well as opportunities for patients and survivors to focus on medical issues and quality of life concerns including relationships, stress management, body image, health and nutrition. Panel discussions, interactive presentations, a healthy cooking demonstration and round table discussions are planned.
"A diagnosis of breast cancer stays with you your entire life," Koenig explains. "Residual health issues, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits and trying to find peace of mind are real and ongoing concerns for all survivors.""
Keynote speaker Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC News' "Good Morning America," will share her personal experience with breast cancer and Chicago's own Rick Bayless, the award-winning chef and cookbook author will share tasty recipes.
Sessions will include topics on life and dating after breast cancer, bone health, chemobrain, genetic testing, sexual health, young survivorship, living with metastatic breast cancer, long-term survivorship issues and more.
Participants will have an opportunity to meet Suzanne Metzger, Ph.D., survivor and co-author of "Complete Idiot's Guide To Living With Breast Cancer," join discussions on topics including work life, fitness and intimacy, enjoy a cozy cinema and visit the Mind, Body and Wellness Expo.
Advance tickets may be purchased for $115, and participants can register online at www.networkofstrenght.org/lifeinbalance.
