Mobile Salons provide resources
By Janice A. Youngwith
Launched in early 2008 as an extension of the Sharon Rose Wig and Prosthesis Salon, the Mobile Salon serves breast cancer survivors in the setting where they are being treated, making it easier for patients to obtain items including wigs, bras, prosthesis and softies.
Since its launch, the Mobile Salon has served more than 100 women. A fitter trained through Breast Cancer Network of Strength Illinois is on hand to ensure women receive exactly what they need in a respectful and professional manner.
In Chicago, Network of Strength Illinois is working to create relationships with 12 local hospitals to establish continuous salon visits at their locations. Mobile Salons visits are currently are offered at four sites in Chicagoland.
Services are provided in English, Spanish and Polish. All resources are free of charge.
