NFL mock draft: Hammond Version 1.0

With another virtual NFL offseason on the horizon, this draft season will look nothing like years past. There will be no meeting of the minds in Indianapolis for the combine. Interviews with prospects will take place virtually.

Predicting the draft will be harder than ever. Except for the top pick. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Jaguars coach Urban Meyer are already getting chummy.

Here's the first crack at this year's mock draft:

1. Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson: This is the only surefire guarantee of the draft. The draft starts in earnest with the No. 2 pick.

2. N.Y. Jets: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU - It comes down to if the Jets have any trust in Sam Darnold. If not, Wilson seems like a good pick here.

3. Miami (via the Texans) - Ja'Marr Chase, WR, LSU: The Dolphins need to surround Tua Tagovailoa with weapons. Chase is one of the top weapons in the draft.

4. Atlanta - Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State: If the Falcons don't trade down, it's because they want a top quarterback. Fields will be the top QB available.

5. Cincinnati - Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon: The Bengals need to do a better job protecting Joe Burrow. If Sewell's available at No. 5, this is a no-brainer.

6. Philadelphia - Patrick Surtain, CB, Alabama: The Eagles need to shore up their defense. They could go with a receiver here, but Surtain feels like a good bet.

7. Detroit - DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama: With Kenny Golladay likely on his way out, the Lions are going to need to replenish their receivers room.

8. Carolina - Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida: The Panthers could go in a lot of different directions here. Pitts has the makings of a unique tight end.

9. Denver - Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech: The 2020 season was a rough one for Broncos cornerbacks. They should be looking to upgrade.

10. Dallas - Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern: Another team with multiple avenues it could take. Any team should be happy to walk away from the draft with Slater on their roster.

11. N.Y. Giants - Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama: Daniel Jones needs more weapons on the Giants offense. Look for the Giants to add a receiver.

12. San Francisco - Alijah Vera-Tucker, OG, USC: The 49ers are a tricky team to figure out. It wouldn't be surprising to see them trade up or down. Vera-Tucker would bolster their interior offensive line.

13. L.A. Chargers - Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech: The Chargers need to revamp the offensive line. Darrisaw is one of the best in this year's draft.

14. Minnesota - Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama: Someone is going to get an interior defensive lineman with high upside in Barmore. The Vikings make for a good fit, if he drops this far.

15. New England - Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State: Maybe the Patriots go for a quarterback here, but it feels like they're going to be in play for a veteran QB.

16. Arizona - Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina: The Cardinals need to get younger at cornerback. Horn should be available at No. 16.

17. Las Vegas - Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame: Owusu-Koramoah could go off the board sooner, but the Raiders would jump at a chance to bolster their defense.

18. Miami - Azeez Ojulari, Edge, Georgia: After helping the offense at No. 3 overall, the Dolphins' focus turns to the defense.

19. Washington - Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State: Lance is the toughest QB to crack, which might make his stock drop. He won't, however, fall to the Bears.

20. Bears - Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State: It just feels like the Bears want to add a veteran quarterback. If so, it's time to beef up the offensive line.

21. Indianapolis - Kwity Paye, DE, Michigan: The Colts are also in win-now mode and need an experienced QB. With multiple edge rushers becoming free agents, it's time to find a young defensive end.

22. Tennessee - Jayson Oweh, Edge, Penn State: The Titans need an edge rusher. Paye is probably the better all-around player right now, but the 6-foot-5 Oweh has some unique size and speed.

23. N.Y. Jets (via the Seahawks) - Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida: The Jets draft their quarterback at No. 2 overall, and give him a new weapon at No. 23.

24. Pittsburgh - Jalen Mayfield, OG, Michigan: The Steelers need to protect an aging Ben Roethlisberger, and could lose some expensive linemen to free agency in the coming years.

25. Jacksonville (via the Rams) - Gregory Rousseau, Edge, Miami: The Jaguars could go with a lineman, but there will be good ones available with the first pick in the second round. Rousseau would be hard to pass on.

26. Cleveland - Zaven Collins, OLB, Tulsa: Collins could be an every-down linebacker. The Browns need to find Myles Garrett some help on the pass rush.

27. Baltimore - Jaelan Phillips, Edge, Miami: With four outside linebackers slated to hit free agency, the Ravens are going to need an edge rusher.

28. New Orleans - Asante Samuel, CB, Florida State: A mass exodus at cornerback is coming in New Orleans, it's time to replenish the position.

29. Green Bay - Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota: The Packers will get Aaron Rodgers the new offensive weapon he had been hoping for with last year's top pick.

30. Buffalo - Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame: If the Bills don't take a defensive player, investing in the offensive line is a wise choice for them.

31. Kansas City - Wyatt Davis, G, Ohio State: Three Super Bowl starters on the offensive line are free agents. The Chiefs' offensive line problems were evident against Tampa.

32. Tampa Bay - Joseph Ossai, Edge, Texas: Shaq Barrett is going to earn a huge contract somewhere. The Bucs probably have to move on at outside linebacker.
