SPRINGFIELD -- Republican Andy McKenna has jumped into the race for governor with a promise to clean up Illinois.

McKenna called himself "the quiet cure" for government corruption and mismanagement during his announcement Tuesday in Chicago.

The former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party also bills himself as an outsider who would bring new ideas to Springfield.

McKenna promises to hold the line on taxes while still balancing a budget that is billions of dollars in the red.

The race for the Republican nomination already includes at least five people, and former Attorney General Jim Ryan says he's going to run, too.
