Two suburban Chicago residents have been charged with burglary for allegedly breaking into the vehicles of mourners as they visited grave sites, or buried their dead.
Stacy Egan of Orland Park and Thomas Beach of Worth were arrested Friday when Chicago Ridge police pulled over the vehicle they were riding in. The officers noticed items in their possession the Cook County sheriff's department had issued bulletins about.
According to the Cook County sheriff's department, more than a dozen theft reports were filed during the summer from cemeteries and funeral homes in Chicago's southern suburbs. Authorities said Tuesday most of the thefts occurred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth.
Egan is charged with four counts of felony burglary and Beach is charged with one count of felony burglary. Both have been freed on $75,000 bond.
