The renowned author Jared Diamond was once asked his opinion regarding the future of the USA. Diamond wrote the book, "Guns, Germs and Steel." The book, a very good read, takes a very close look at the evolution of societies and hypothesizes why some fail and others thrive.
He answered the question by simply stating: "Societies, in which decision makers personally experience the consequences of their decisions, are more likely to fare better than those whose decision makers are insulated from consequences."
If this statement were to be applied to the health care situation, one has to wonder what the outcome would be.
Isn't it true that all 535 members of Congress are a bit insulated from having a direct experience of the consequences of their health care decisions that the rest of us are certain to experience?
Did "primitive" tribes require members to lose their teepee/home, before they could afford to visit the tribal medicine man?
