JOLIET -- It's not often that the words people are forced to eat are actually delicious.

But in Will County, they were just that for Judge Robert Livas when a joke to a criminal defendant turned into a plate of jerk chicken.

Livas had sentenced Darrius Logan to serve 100 hours of community service after Logan pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and criminal trespass charges.

Logan returned to court saying he'd done his service at Uncle Joe's Jerk Chicken restaurant in Chicago. That's when the judge told Logan to find another place to do the work or -- and this is the part Livas says was a joke -- bring some chicken to court.

On Oct. 6, Logan did just that, returning to court with chicken, bread and hot sauce.

Livas says joking or not, he had to keep his word and accept the chicken.
