I want to compliment Daily Herald reporter Robert McCoppin on his interview with Melissa Bean. It was clear that Mr. McCoppin did his homework where Ms. Bean did not. When asked if the proposed health care act would cover illegal immigrants Ms. Bean said that the act clearly prohibits it.
Mr. McCoppin pointed out in a "reporter's note" that although the bill prohibits coverage to illegal immigrants there is no mention on how that item will be enforced but leaves the process to a commissioner. The White House has said there would be no change in current law that compensates hospitals for treating illegal immigrants in emergency rooms.
To me that says there is no need for the reform act because it reforms nothing except give more control to the government.
Again "kudos" to Mr. McCoppin and the Daily Herald. If only more reporters and newspapers would do their homework and challenge our politicians on their statements.
