A Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, whose body was found this week inside the truck of her car.
According to police, 22-year-old Darron Brewer shot to death his wife, 22-year-old Kenyatae Collier-Brewer, to collect benefits from her life insurance policy. He was also trying to cover up his brothers rape of the woman several weeks earlier.
Prosecutors say Brewer plotted with his brother to kill Collier-Brewer. The brother is in custody, but has not been charged.
Brewer was ordered held Friday without bond.
Brewer initially claimed his wife of two years had gone missing. He later told police he spotted her car in an alley. Authorities discovered the body.
Prosecutors say Brewer, who has a previous conviction for financial fraud, gave a videotaped confession to police.
