LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- Officials are trying to sort out a northern Indiana town's finances since the clerk-treasurer disappeared after he was charged with beating up his girlfriend.

Lakeville Clerk-Treasurer Casey Grove was freed on $1,250 bond, but failed to appear in court for his arraignment hearing Oct. 26. Town Marshal Bill Boyer says police believe Grove is still in the state.

Town Council President John Kuhn says the community's assets are secure and that officials are working through a backlog of unpaid bills. The State Board of Accounts also plans a special audit because of Grove's criminal charges.

The 30-year-old Grove was elected in 2007 to his position in the town about 10 miles south of South Bend.
