A Chicago man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Monday in Lake County Circuit Court for beating and robbing a pizza deliveryman he lured to an abandoned house.
Jefferson Dominguez, 19, pleaded guilty to armed robbery during a hearing before Associate Judge Daniel Shanes. Assistant State's Attorney Steven Derue said Dominguez called for a pizza to be delivered to an empty house in the 200 block of Liberty Street in Waukegan on Nov. 13 and waited for the deliveryman to arrive.
When the victim got to the house, Dominguez attacked him with a blunt instrument and stole his money and the pizza. Dominguez was arrested two days later, Derue said, and the deliveryman needed 40 staples to close wounds to his head.
Dominguez faced up to 30 years in prison if he had been convicted after a trial.
