Carol Stream VFW to hold annual Memorial Day ceremony

Join the Carol Stream Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10396 and the Carol Stream Park District, along with the Village of Carol Stream, for a Memorial Day Service.

The service will start at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Veterans Memorial Plaza, at the Ross Ferraro Town Center, at Gary Avenue and Lies Road.

The speaker will be Dick Naylor, a Vietnam War veteran and a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. Naylor spent about eight months in Vietnam as part of the 1st Cavalry Division, flying military leaders in and out of the jungle.

VFW Post 10396 Commander Rich Hildenbrand invites veterans to join in and stand up front to be acknowledged.

The ceremony will begin with the national anthem, prayer by Post Chaplain Roland Johnson, the General Order read by Adjunct Mike Johns, and the VFW wreath presentation.

There will be a rifle salute by Lou Lingwai, Jim Plumb and Fred Gerleve. Taps will be performed by Bill Mertz and Tom McNeil will play "Amazing Grace" on bag pipes.
