Antioch 16, Lakes 3

Scoring runs hasn't really been a problem for Antioch's softball team this season.

Tuesday's North Suburban Prairie Division game against Lakes was no exception.

Antioch made short work of its cross-town rival, crushing the Eagles 16-3.

The Sequoits (16-9, 8-3) rode a typhoon-sized wave of offense, as they finished with 18 hits.

Lindsay Callanan led Antioch at the plate, finishing 5-for-5 with a stolen base and 3 runs scored. The senior wasn't the only Sequoit who had a big day with the bat.

Kaley Lindstrom and Samantha Seamon both doubled, and Alli Anttila had a 2-run triple. Antioch received 2 hits apiece from Lindstrom, Seamon (3 RBI), Anttila (3 RBI), Ashley Mysliwiec and Candice Schmidt.

"We were really hitting well today," Antioch coach Mary Easton said. "Once we waited on the change-ups, we started hitting and we didn't let up."

Antioch "didn't let up" to the tune of 4 hits and 8 runs in the third inning. The Sequoits scored in every inning except the second and fifth.

The Sequoits tacked on five more runs in the seventh, in which Callanan scored from second base on a wild pitch.

"They were lolly-gagging, so I just decided to take my chances," Callanan said of her heads-up base running.

Antioch got hits up and down the lineup. The bottom third of the order -- Jen Precht, Anttila and Lindstrom -- went a combined 5-for-13 with a pair of extra-base hits.

"(Hits at the bottom of the order) hasn't happened much this season," Easton said. "It's good that we got production out of our (Nos.) 7, 8 and 9 hitters."

Despite the final score, early in the game, both teams seemed equally matched. After the Sequoits drew first blood on a Mysliwiec RBI single, Lakes struck back in the second.

Shannon Cooley (3-for-3) led off with a double. Nicole Speck then reached on an infield single. Mysliwiec, who pitched 5 innings of 5-hit ball, retired the next two batters, but Jeanna Dudley then hit a 2-run single.

Antioch responded in the third, sending 12 batters to the plate.

Unfortunately for Lakes, the Eagles have been down this road before.

For the past four games, they've averaged 6 errors a game. They've struggled with consistency.

"That's pretty much been the story for us for most of the season," Eagles coach Tia Martinez said. "We have a good first couple of innings and then we have a few errors and it starts to domino."

Antioch freshman Olivia Deuhr pitched 2 innings in relief for Antioch and also had an RBI single.
