Two hurt in Aurora fire

Two people were injured when fire broke out in a home early Saturday morning on the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Aurora.

The blaze forced a man and a woman to jump from one of the home's second-story windows onto a porch roof, Aurora Battalion Chief Dave Rygh said.

The man, 66, suffered cuts and other injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, authorities said. He was transported to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.

The woman, 46, was hurt more seriously and transported by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. No further details about her condition were available.

Officials believe the fire started on the first floor of the home. The occupants were awakened by smoke detectors, Rygh said.

Firefighters called to the scene at 5:50 a.m. brought the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, Rygh said. The fire caused about $175,000 in damage and rendered the house uninhabitable, he added.

The cause remains under investigation.
