Kane County clerk: Cunningham

Incumbent Republican Jack Cunningham has done a great deal in his two terms in office to automate records, make them more accessible to the public and to reduce the time it takes to dig up information. That has allowed him to reduce staffing and stay within budget, save for a couple noted exceptions: a special election to replace Congressman Dennis Hastert, and the purchase of electronic voting machines.

Cunningham also serves as president of the National Association of County Recorders, Elected Officials and Clerks, which puts him in a good position to adapt best practices from others around the country.

Cunningham is endorsed. He is challenged by Democrat Mavis Bates, an Aurora acupuncturist, and Green Party candidate Jose del Bosque, also of Aurora.
