Bears give Mannelly, Toeaina contract extensions

The Chicago Bears signed LS Patrick Mannelly to a two-year contract extension and DT Matt Toeaina to a three-year contract extension. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Mannelly's new contract runs through the 2012 season and Toeaina's through the 2013 season.

Mannelly is the Bears all-time leader in games played with 204. Since joining the Bears as a sixth-round selection (189th overall) in the 1998 NFL Draft, Mannelly has handled the long snapping duties in all but three contests as a member of the team.

“I'm excited I can continue playing for the Bears," Mannelly said. "With the way the season is going, it could be a chance for two more exciting years. I love the Bears. I've been here for 13 years. Chicago is my home and I didn't want to leave.”

His 136 consecutive games played are most on the team. During Mannelly's NFL career, he has been the long snapper on 1,925 of the Bears 1,945 combined punts, field goal attempts and PAT attempts (391 of 395 field goal attempts; 400 of 405 PAT attempts and 1,134 of 1,144 punts).

Since joining the Bears after being signed off the Cincinnati practice squad in 2007, Toeaina has played in 20 contests with 34 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for losses, three pass break ups and one fumble recovery. In 2010, Toeaina has set career highs in games played (15), starts (10), tackles (28), sacks (2), pass break ups (2) and fumble recoveries (1).

“I got an opportunity and I had to make sure I took advantage of it—and I guess I did," Toeaina said. "I'm looking forward to the next three years with the Bears. My family and I love it here in Chicago. We love the coaching staff, we love our teammates and we love the city.”
