Decision due next week on Schaumburg Township Library District candidate

A decision on whether a third candidate for the Schaumburg Township Library District board will be removed from the ballot, leaving the race uncontested, will come next week.

The Cook County clerk’s electoral board on Monday heard evidence related to Julie Wroblewski Bosshart’s candidacy for trustee, but deferred making a decision until sometime next week.

The Schaumburg woman’s nominating petitions are being challenged by former state Rep. Paul Froehlich, who said Wroblewski Bosshart didn’t use her maiden name on her voter registration, where she is known only as Julie A. Bosshart.

Wroblewski Bosshart, 39, said she should be allowed to use both names on the ballot and is confident she presented a strong case.

“As far as I know, the Illinois State Board of Elections doesn’t say anywhere that the names (on petitions and voter registration cards) need to agree,” she said.

Wroblewski Bosshart, the daughter of Schaumburg Township Supervisor Mary Wroblewski, said she chose to run using both names because she grew up in the community. Many Schaumburg High School classmates and residents she knew during a former accounting career would know her only by her maiden name, she said.

“It almost seems like it’s discrimination against women to not be able to use a maiden name,” Wroblewski Bosshart said. “It represents who you are and what you’ve done in your life.”

Froehlich, whose wife, Marilyn, served on the library district board for two years before stepping down in 2009, is out of town and didn’t attend the hearing. His attorney, John Chwarzynski, couldn’t be reached for comment.

Froehlich successfully objected to the nominating petitions of candidates David Benson, of Hoffman Estates, and Gerald Bromley, of Schaumburg, knocking them off the ballot.

Their removal left four candidates contesting for three four-year seats, including Wroblewski Bosshart. Incumbents Debby Miller and Nicolas Scipione are running, as well as former trustee Richard Hetzer.
