Relay for Life events coming

Relay For Life events are coming up this weekend in Barrington and next weekend in Bartlett.

Relay For Life of Barrington hopes to draw more than 1,000 people and is attempting to set a world record by building a 15,000 cupcake tower to “celebrate more birthdays with less cancer.”

The event begins at 5 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Barrington High School Stadium, 616 W. Main St, Barrington, with a Survivor Dinner Reception with storytelling and dessert being provided by celebrity chef Gale Gand of TRU Restaurant. The dinner, which the group says will be the largest in the state, is being provided by Millrose Restaurant of South Barrington through a special grant the American Cancer Society received from the Barrington Area Community Foundation. Information is available at relayforlifebarrington.com.

On Friday, June 17, Hanover Township is hosting the Bartlett, Hanover Park, Streamwood Relay For Life at 250 S. Route 59 in Bartlett. The opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m. with a DJ, kids activities, games, silent auction and food. Both events are having luminaria ceremonies at 10 p.m. to honor the survivors and remember those lost to cancer. The group aims to raise $65,000. This event is open to the public and you do not need to be registered to participate. For information, contact Jaci Kator at (847) 287-8823 or go to relayforlifebhps.com.
