Woman dies after being struck by train near Rolling Meadows

Three Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line were stopped for more than an hour after a woman was struck and killed in Rolling Meadows between the Arlington Park and Palatine stations.

The woman, who was described in her mid to late 20s, was walking on the tracks about 500 yards east of the Rohlwing Road crossing when she was struck by an outbound train, fire department officials said.

Outbound train 659, which left downtown at 8:30 p.m., struck the woman at about 9:35 p.m., said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The train remained stopped as police continued their investigation late into the night, but passengers were transferred to a second train and continued to their destinations, said Rolling Meadows Fire Department Lt. Colin Finlay.

Outbound train 661, which was scheduled to arrive at Harvard at 11:20 p.m., was delayed for about an hour. Inbound train 662 was delayed for about two hours.

Fire officials said the conductor sounded the horn, but the woman did not move from the tracks.
