Police say Palatine man fatally stabbed over TV set

Authorities believe a 22-year-old Palatine man was fatally stabbed Monday night in an altercation over money owed for a broken TV set.

Eduardo Guillen-Tellez was killed late Monday on the 1300 block of North Ports O'Call near Rand Road, police said.

Palatine police said they were called to the scene at 8:07 p.m. on reports that someone had been stabbed. Officers arrived and discovered Guillen-Tellez lying on the ground bleeding, according to police.

Authorities said a 29-year-old suspect is in custody, but no criminal charges were filed as of late Tuesday.

Guillen-Tellez was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, authorities said, where he later died from his wounds.

A spokesman with the Cook County medical examiner's office said an autopsy performed Tuesday morning determined Guillen-Tellez died of multiple stab wounds and an incised wound, meaning a sharp-edged object was used.

Palatine police said investigators learned through numerous witnesses that several people approached the suspect and a verbal altercation eventually turned physical.

The fight apparently started over $40 owed to Guillen-Tellez over a broken TV he had bought from the suspect, police said.

Investigators from the Palatine Police Department and the Major Case Assistance Team continue to gather information and interview witnesses, officials said.
