Elk Grove to host Celebration of Character party

Elk Grove Village is an exceptional community and the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove is celebrating this title.

From 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Hattendorf Center, in Elk Grove Village, the CCC is hosting its third annual Celebration of Character. The event is open to the public and free.

The celebration will have free grilled food, beverages, games for the children, and a split the pot raffle. There will be guest appearances from “Skates” of the Chicago Wolves and Miss Illinois. Miss Illinois will address the crowd about the importance character and how it has affected her life.

The CCC of Elk Grove continues “to build the core of community strength” through the practice of the Six Pillars of Character Counts: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. On display at the Celebration of Character event, will be the many areas in which the CCC works in our community to complete this mission and ways to become involved.

Some of the ways the community gets involved are:

Ÿ Participants at the Celebration of Culture can visit booths and learn more of the programs the CCC initiates:

Ÿ Pack the Pantry, the CCC works with high school students to supply our local food banks. The number of items collected in 2010 surpassed every year to assist those in need.

Ÿ Kids Club Program, where practical applications for the six pillars are introduced to elementary schoolchildren. In 2010 over 70 children, in five District 59 schools were introduced to the Six Pillars through the after school program. CCC then trained junior and high school students to assist in the Elk Grove Park District Summer Camp program.

Ÿ Letters to the Troops, a community campaign to send messages of support to our service members stationed overseas. In 2009, it was a letter written by an Elk Grove Village High School student that touched the heart of an Air Force Technical Sergeant stationed in Iraq so deeply, that he commissioned the American flown over his base in honor of Elk Grove Village.

Join Mayor Johnson, the Elk Grove Police and Fire Departments and take the pledge to promote character at the Celebration of Character. Be a part of this community event and continue to make Elk Grove Village an exceptional community.
