Ex-St. Charles North coach accused of stealing

A St. Charles North High School teacher has been charged with stealing from stores in Batavia and St. Charles.

Katherine A. Duraski of North Aurora was charged with an Aug. 10 theft from the Target store at 115 N. Randall Road in Batavia, according to a police report and court documents.

She was charged Aug. 29 with stealing from Von Maur department store, 3810 E. Main St., St. Charles, police said.

Duraski, 34, is accused of taking four pillows and a king-size pillow topper from Target. The value of the items was not specified on the complaint. From Von Maur, she is accused of taking three bras, a T-shirt, a pair of shorts and a pair of jeggings totaling $247.

Both charges are misdemeanors.

St. Charles School District 303 communications Director Jim Blaney said Duraski was placed on paid leave from Sept. 1-8. He declined to provide any other details because it is a personnel matter. Duraski teaches physical education.

Duraski's next court date on both charges is Dec. 1, in the Kane County branch court in St. Charles. She is free on a personal recognizance bond. The online docket indicates there will be a hearing as to whether she is eligible for pretrial diversion.

Attempts to reach Duraski were unsuccessful.

Duraski was named head coach of North Stars girls varsity basketball team in 2006 after several years coaching underclassmen. A new coach took over in 2010.
