Murder-suicide suspected in Prospect Heights

Prospect Heights police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at the Lake Run Condominiums on the 0-100 block of Old Willow Road, authorities at the scene confirmed.

Police arriving at the scene on the fourth floor of the condominium complex found a man and a woman dead in the hallway about 3:30 p.m. from apparent gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Police received multiple simultaneous 911 calls reporting “a verbal altercation and shouting,” “shots fired,” and “a woman reporting that she was being attacked,” officials said.

Prospect Heights Police Chief Jamie Dunne said it appears one of the 911 calls was made by the female victim before she was killed.

Authorities said the woman lived alone in the complex and it is believed the two knew each other.

The condominium complex, located east of Wolf Road and just south of Chicago Executive Airport, was blocked off by a security guard while Prospect Heights police and members of the Major Case Assistance Team investigated the crime scene.

Police were working with the condominiums' private security guards to obtain surveillance footage.

“We are 100 percent confident that there is no threat to the community and that the situation is secure,” Dunne said. “The police department needs time to continue the investigation and gather more information.”

Both the man and the woman were pronounced dead at the scene, and their names are being withheld pending family notification. A Cook County medical examiner's office representative said it is likely their identities will not be released until Tuesday morning.

Mount Prospect police assisted at the scene.

Investigators will be working overnight, and more information will be available by 9 a.m. Tuesday.
