Glenbard District 87 makes boundary change

Incoming freshmen who live in four neighborhoods within Glenbard High School District 87 boundaries will attend Glenbard South — not East — starting next fall.

The school board voted Monday to approve a boundary adjustment, allowing students who reside in four areas west of Finley Road — Butterfield East, Clover Creek, International Village and Surrey Road — to take classes at Glenbard South.

The move is based on a demographic study that shows South losing about 50 students a year for the next several years. The change also was preferred by a majority of families, officials said.

It’s estimated the switch will bring an additional 160 students to the school over a four-year phase-in period.

Sophomores, juniors, seniors and their siblings will be grandfathered at their existing school, and incoming freshmen will go to the school of their older sibling, officials said.
