Cocaine, cash, shotgun found in Elgin home

Two Elgin residents were arrested Monday night after police found 65 grams of cocaine in their home and a sawed-off shotgun, according to authorities.

Police executed a search warrant at the home of Benjamin Rocha, 47, and Magdalena Hernandez, 39, on the 500 block of Hill Avenue about 10:30 Monday night and found the drugs, according to police.

The cocaine, which has an estimated street value of about $6,000, was seized along with nearly $23,000 in cash and the sawed-off shotgun, police said.

The couple's two older children and a baby were at the home during the arrest.

Rocha and Hernandez were each charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver.

Rocha was also charged with possession of a firearm without a FOID card.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on both of them. They are due in bond court today.
