St. Edward boosters to honor Rees

The St. Edward High School booster club will honor Steve Rees as its man of the year Wednesday evening at the club’s winter steak fry.

There is a donation of $20 at the door. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m.

Softball

College commitments: Tory Burke and Julia Smith of Bartlett have made college commitments. Burke, a Bartlett pitcher, has signed to play softball and volleyball at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee while Smith, a catcher, has committed to Division III Dominican University in River Forest.

Cross country/track

New Westminster Christian coach: Ron Froeschke has been named the new cross country and track coach at Westminster Christian. Froeschke is a former all-state runner in Michigan who competed in both sports at Michigan State. He has also run the Boston Marathon.
