Woman pulled from vehicle in Naperville pond

A 66-year-old woman was saved by firefighters from her partially submerged vehicle, which she crashed into a Naperville pond Wednesday afternoon.

The woman for an unknown reason drove into a pond at the Weigand Riverfront Park near the intersection of Ring Road and Washington Street at about 3:38 p.m., said Naperville Fire Capt. Tom Hedberg.

First responders at the scene found the woman inside the vehicle, which was two-thirds under water, Hedberg said.

Emergency crews were able to open the driver’s side door on the vehicle and pull the woman out. She was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville where she was later conscious and talking with police officers, according to fire officials.

The woman was the only person in the vehicle.
