Fire damages Rolling Meadows home

A fire inside a Rolling Meadows home early Sunday evening caused more than $100,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable, according to fire officials.

The lone resident of the ranch-style house on the 2200 block of Cedar Street was not home when the fire broke out, but a neighbor spotted smoke and called 911 at 5:15 p.m., officials said.

The first firefighters at the scene found the building heavily involved in fire, said Rolling Meadows Fire Department Batallion Chief Pete Till.

“We couldn’t see a whole lot,” Till said. “The whole house was filled with heavy black smoke. There was a lot of heat when we first opened the doors.”

The fire, which started in the living room, caused about $125,000 damage to the home and contents, Till said.

Fire officials said the cause remains under investigation, but the blaze was deemed accidental.

“It’s uninhabitable,” Till said. “We took out most of the windows to vent it, a lot of heavy smoke.”

No firefighters were injured during the fire.

Firefighters from the Palatine, Palatine Rural and Arlington Heights departments assisted at the scene.
