Photos, video help lead to arrests in Island Lake bank robbery

Two people have been arrested following a bank robbery in Island Lake, police said Saturday.

Charged with armed robbery are Laurie L. Ruble, 30, of the 100 block of Oakwood Drive, Antioch; and Brandon D. Stancliff, 25, of the 1100 block of Cornell Lane, Yorkville. Additional charges are pending, police said.

The duo robbed Wauconda Community Bank, 229 E. State Road, about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police said in a news release.

Ruble walked into the bank and asked if employees could exchange coins for paper currency, police said. She left the bank and got into a blue Chevrolet Cavalier with Stancliff and then parked nearby, police said.

Stancliff then went into the bank, demanded money and threatened employees with a knife, police said. No customers were in the bank at the time and no one got hurt, Police Chief William McCorkle said.

Nearly $5,000 was stolen in the robbery, McCorkle said. Some cash was recovered.

Pictures and video of Ruble and the getaway car were taken at the bank, police said. That helped break the case, McCorkle said.

Stancliff was in custody at the Kane County jail on Saturday, police said. He was arrested Friday in Kane County and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the jail website.

The vehicle in question is the same Chevrolet Cavalier used in the robbery, Island Lake police said. It had been reported stolen in Antioch, and police in Kane County stopped the car and arrested Stancliff and Ruble after spotting it in the county.

Ruble was freed without charges, but she was arrested again that night in Lake County in connection with the robbery, McCorkle said.

Island Lake police worked with the FBI to investigate the robbery.

“It’s a nice feeling (to solve it quickly),” McCorkle said. “It’s a good result.”
