Cary native places third on “Jeopardy!”

If Anne Rozek would have bet all of her winnings on “Jeopardy!” she would have finished second.

Instead, the Cary resident played it safe with her wager during the final round and placed third.

Rozek, 19, a junior at Eastern Illinois University, was featured on a “Jeopardy” episode that aired Thursday afternoon for its College Championship.

As part of the tournament, the show picked 15 students from across the country to compete for $100,000. Rozek, who couldn't be reached for comment Thursday, started slow and finished the first round in third place, with only $400.

By the time she'd completed the “Double Jeopardy!” round, she had amassed $7,200 and finished in third place, though she'd had brief stints in the second place slot.

In the “Double Jeopardy” round, Rozek lost $2,000 by giving the wrong question to a “Video Daily Double” answer about the architectural style featured in Anne Boleyn Gatehouse. The correct question was “What is Tudor?” Rozek's was “What is gothic?”

She went into “Final Jeopardy!” with $7,200 and instead of wagering all of her winnings, she bet $4,300.

She gave the correct question to: “One of this author's greatest successes came after remarking, ‘I want to write about a fellow who was two fellows.'”

The question? “Who was Robert Louis Stevenson,” in reference to “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

Rozek finished the show with $11,500, while her competitors left with $12,799 and $19,000. If she'd bet the farm, Rozek would have ended her “Jeopardy” debut with $14,400.
