Former employee turns self in, posts bond

Steve LeMaire, the former Geneva streets division superintendent, turned himself in to Geneva police Saturday on an arrest warrant for charges of theft, online theft by deception and official misconduct, according to police and court records.

LeMaire posted $2,500 bond and was released.

Mayor Kevin Burns fired LeMaire, 55, who had worked 33 years for the city.

On Friday, a Kane County jury indicted LeMaire, who lives in Elburn. He is accused of misusing city credit card accounts to make at least $24,000 worth of purchases, mostly for outdoor clothing and equipment, according to a Geneva police report. Some of the purchases date back to 2004.

LeMaire is due to appear in court March 7.
