Business leader gives Quinn C, C+ on jobs
The president of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce says he'd give Pat Quinn a C or C+ grade on Quinn's job-creation policies during his tenure as governor.
Doug Whitley spoke to The Associated Press on Monday as he launched a two-day speaking tour to weigh in on what he believes Illinois has do to improve the state's business climate and reduce a jobless rate of around 10 percent.
Whitley praises Quinn for identifying economic development as a priority and especially for putting a renewed focus on international trade. But he says Quinn hasn't done enough to control spending.
The 3,500-member Chamber is voicing its views before Quinn delivers his budget proposal Wednesday. Quinn has already cut spending and raised taxes, but Illinois remains in dire financial shape.
